On 19th February 2025, the students of BAE Scientia College International, Kaluaggala embarked on an exciting and educational field visit to Ranala, a well-known village in Sri Lanka that has preserved the ancient art of pottery-making for generations.

The visit aimed to enrich students' understanding of local industries, traditional craftsmanship, and sustainable practices. Upon arrival, students were warmly welcomed by a group of experienced pottery artisans and exporters, who have dedicated their lives to mastering the craft of pottery. They gave a detailed explanation of how the clay is sourced, processed, and transformed into beautiful, functional pottery items such as pots, vases, and cooking utensils.

One of the most engaging parts of the trip was the hands-on workshop, where students had the chance to work with real clay and try making their own pots using traditional potter’s wheels. Guided step-by-step by the local potters, students learned how delicate and skillful the process truly is. For many, it was their first time working with clay, and the experience sparked creativity and curiosity.

In addition to the practical session, the potters also delivered an informative session on the advantages of clay products, emphasizing their eco-friendly nature, reusability, and cultural value. Students learned how pottery not only supports the local economy but also contributes to environmental sustainability, offering a meaningful alternative to plastic and synthetic materials.

The visit concluded with an open discussion, where students asked questions and shared their thoughts about what they had learned. The field visit was not only a fun and memorable experience but also one that broadened students' perspectives and deepened their appreciation for traditional Sri Lankan industries.

We thank the Ranala community for their warm hospitality and hope to continue such valuable learning experiences in the future.
